This is a poster plastered in the bedrooms of Blackburn's Home for Abandoned and Troubled Children.
Bounding is serious business! It is the jumping between dimensions, the transcendence of space and time in an instant. When you bound, your body forcefully punches a hole in the flow of the universe, digs through the gunk a little bit, and pops out the other side! All in a millisecond! Isn't that incredible?
Now such an incredible process may be scary! This is a guide to help you understand how to bound, and how to do it safely!
1. Get your rabbit hair.
It is important that before you bound, you always bring a tuft of rabbit fur. You don't want to get sick!
2. Find a door.
Bounding is easy if you use a door, and any door! So long as there is an archway, there is a way! I had said that bounding is like punching a hole. Doors are that hole!
3. Make that door boundable.
Now, of course, a door is not going to automatically transport you across time and space. To make it boundable, you need to first decide which dimension you plan to go to. Look at your hand and repeat after me:
Pinkie equals alpha!
Ring equals beta!
Middle equals gamma!
Pointer equals delta!
Thumb equals epsilon!
Place the ring of your bounding device on whichever finger corresponds to whichever dimension you plan to travel to! So if you want to travel to the Gamma Dimension, you better put that sucker on your middle finger!
After this is completed, grab the doorknob or touch the door frame and rub the device on your arm hard. Make sure there's enough electricity generated from your friction to power the device. Then, open the door and step through!
4. What happens when I step through?
When you open the door, you should see the normal room. Stepping in, however, will prompt a flash, as quick as lightning. Everything should change, and you should find yourself in another dimension!
After the flash, you may experience some side effects. Nausea, vomiting, bleeding from the nose, mouth, or eyes, dizziness or vertigo, and even fainting are commonly reported. Know that these side effects aren't given, and they pass very quickly. It is recommended you lay down somewhere for five minutes after bounding.
5. How far can I go?
If you travel too far from your entrance point, you will find yourself feeling sick. Travel too far after that, you may faint, or worse if you are taken even farther. The point where you feel sick is called your threshold, and everyone's is different. Most peoples' is a few miles from their entrance point. Mister Clancy's is 30 miles, but he has been bounding for a long time!
If you feel sick, make sure to not go any further!
6. How do I return?
The same way you got in! Keep the ring on the same finger, find a door, and use it to bound back home!
7. Can I return with people?
Yes! Keep your hand on them as you both walk through your door!
8. What if I can't find a door?
This is a tad more complicated. If you can't find a door, you need to either make one, or make due without one! To make a door, find anything door-like, and follow the instructions to the best of your ability. Door-like structures can be a hole, a cave entrance, a crawl-space-- anything with an arch. Instead of placing your hand on a door frame, you may need to place it on the wall or on a surface at the entrance of your makeshift door.
If you cannot find an archway, you may bound by means of perception altering, but it requires calmness and concentration. Try turning a corner with your hand to the wall, or stepping forwards while simultaneously whipping your head back and forth.
9. What dimensions can I go to?
All dimensions but the delta dimension. We forbid you to go there. If the ring of your device is seen on your pointer finger, you will be reported to the psychologist.
9. What if I bound without rabbit fur?
